September Romance Author of the Month: Evan Grace

One of the best things about writing about romance books for a blog is the fabulous opportunities that you are able to have.  From reading ARC books of big name authors to getting to do interviews with new up and coming authors.  It was my pleasure to be able to chat with Author Evan Grace this month.  Read on to find out more..

OUaTBB: Hi Evan!  It was so nice to be able to chat with you about your books and get to know you a little better and share you & your charm with our readers.

EGThanks for having me!

OUaTBB: Let’s jump right in!  How did you get inspired to write?

EGOver six years ago I became an avid reader. Shayla Black, Jaci Burton, and Maya Banks introduced me to a whole new world of romance novels. One day, I swear, an idea popped into my head and I started writing. My first novel was a disaster, it was horrible. I laugh when I read it now. I tried to emulate Shayla’s writing style but quickly learned that I needed to find my own voice.

OUaTBB:What is the first book that made you cry?

EG: This is going to sound weird but Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. The ending gutted me and I sobbed, and then yelled at my husband for not telling me what was going to happen

OUaTBB: Have you ever gotten reader’s block?

EG: Yes, sometimes I might read the beginning of several books before one that holds my attention. But I always go back and read the others. What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer? I have several I’m friends with, but author Angela McPherson is my writing buddy at night and her encouragement has helped me more than she could ever know.

How do you deal with bad or good ones? Yes, I do. The good ones drive me to write more and the bad ones push me to learn more about my craft.

OUaTBB: Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones?

EG: Yes, I do. The good ones drive me to write more and the bad ones push me to learn more about my craft. What was your hardest scene to write? Ohhh…probably then ending to my Upcoming novel Broken Souls. I can’t tell you why, but I sobbed while I wrote it and it took me to kind of a dark place.

OUaTBB: What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?

EG: I’m actually one of those who writers that does the research as I go.

OUaTBB: Is being a writer a gift or a curse? Both. It’s a gift because knowing that people love and read my stories

EG: Both. It’s a gift because knowing that people love and read my stories is incredible. It’s a curse because the people in my head NEVER shut up J

OUaTBB: When you develop characters do you already know who they are before you begin writing or do you let them develop as you go?

EG: I have a general idea but more of their true personalities come out as I write.

OUaTBB: What’s the strangest thing you have ever had to research online for your book? Hmmm…there are too many to count, but I guess what it’s like to overdose on heroin

EG: Hmmm…there are too many to count, but I guess what it’s like to overdose on heroin

OUaTBB: If you were deserted on an island, which three people would you want to have with you? Why?

OUaTBB: One fictional character from your book:

EG: Dylan Carmichael from Begin Again book 3 in my Starting Over series. He’s an             ex-marine so he’d be able to make sure we survived

OUaTBB: One fictional character from any other book:

EG: Faye from ‘Breathe’ by Kristen Ashley. We could sit and talk about books all day and chew our bubblemint gum

OUaTBB: One famous person that is not a family member or friend:

EG: Chris Pratt because he’s funny, humble and nice to look at. He’d be able to keep our spirits up

OUaTBB: What are your current projects?

EG: I’m working on a new series, a RomCom Called the Tomboy Chronicles. I’m loving Silas and Britney.

OUaTBB:  Thanks so much for taking some time out of your busy schedule to chat with us!

Want to know more about Evan Grace?

A Midwesterner and self-proclaimed book nerd, Evan has been an avid reader most of her life, but one day an idea came into her head and a writing career was born. She’s a sucker for happily ever afters and loves creating fictional worlds that others can get lost in. Evan loves putting her characters through the ringer but loves when they get to that satisfying, swoony ending.

When the voices in her head give it a rest, she can always be found with her e-reader in her hand. Some of her favorites include Aurora Rose Reynolds, (the queen) Kristen Ashley, Joanna Wylde, Madeline Sheehan and Harper Sloan. Evan finds a lot of her inspiration in music, movies, TV shows and life.

She’s a wife to Jim and a mom to Ethan and Evan, a cook, a tutor, a friend and a writer. How does she do it? She’ll never tell.
