Review of Sebring by Kristen Ashley

YAY! Another KRISTEN ASHLEY read. So of course I’m EXCITED and PUMPED to get into it. Nick Sebring, the younger brother that we loved to loathe from the first book in the ‘Unfinished Heroes’ series KNIGHT. He got on our nerves…did unsavory things and was just a royal pain in the ass! So getting to read his story, I was a little doubtful that he could be redeemed. But alas, it’s Kit and I should not doubt.

Back in the day, Nick Sebring had been known as the incompetent, unprincipled wastrel younger brother of a successful man. He was no longer any of that. What he was a dark horse.”

Nick Sebring, the wastrel younger brother of Knight Sebring has never felt a part of his family. He grew up under the shadow of a brother who could do anything. Always feeling like an outsider in his own family. But Nick learns after trying to destroy his brother through the woman he loves that he has to make some hard decisions about the man he wants to be. We see how Nick does this in little glimpses throughout the other books in KA’s Unfinished Heroes Series. We see him try to make up for the hurt and pain he caused to his brother and family. At the beginning of the book the man that he is becoming is tested…pushed to his limits as he is forced to watch his love murdered right before his eyes. He knows he needs to avenger her and he will use any means to exact this vengeance. He thinks he has found the perfect tool: Olivia Shade.

“Olivia Shade was something of exquisite beauty not allowed to be what she needed to be. Beauty bound. She was not a ghost who could be seen. She was a hostage in a lavish cage.”

Olivia Shade is also used to being an outsider. She’s always felt that she never fit into her family. All they want from her is to keep her close and under their thumbs. But she wants to be free. She wants to wake up, see the dawn and breathe free. After a very painful lesson at the hands of her Father, she learns….she will never have that.

Then she meets Nick Sebring. She knows that in their world they can never be. Never be friends. Never be lovers.   Never be…

But as Nick proceeds with his plan of vengeance and starts to pursue Olivia, she starts to hope she can find love. That she can have a man of her own. She can be happy. She can be free.

As Nick peels back the layers and mystery surrounding the beauty he starts to find that she is not what everyone believes. He finds fragility. He falls in love with its beauty. He knows he has to protect it.

“Just so you don’t forget.  You mean more to me today than you did yesterday. And yesterday, you meant a fuckuva lot to me.”
